SalsaCrazy Website of the Week: Addicted2Salsa

I was going over the other salsa news sites to get informed about upcoming events and saw the latest episode of the Salsa Crazy Dance News Videocast. They have named us ‘Website of the Week’ for the July 4th, 2008 edition. I am really happy to have received such great praise from another prominent salsa website. The “Website of the Week” sections starts at 3:15 into the show.

Thanks to SalsaCrazy for their hard work to also make salsa information accessible to the rest of the world.

[Updated: We have removed the links to his article, because he has removed link backs to our site. I'm sure he will contact us when it gets resolved.]

  • Whoo hoo. a2s rules!

  • A2S rules indeed. A lot of ingenuity and forward-thinking.. Hats off to Anthony and all who put this together.

  • I just wish Evan would make his site a little more readable. It’s like a spammercial some of the time – A forced read of an Edward Tufte book might help him improve sales. Unless he’s gunning for confusion. It seems they have so much energy, but they don’t have a more standardised layout (e.g. see their promo emails you get regarding the video snippets pushing their dvd (collections)).

  • Do you have any feedback for our site? We appreciate suggestions on how to make things better.

  • Wiki? A youtube channel shown on the site, where anyone could enter 30 second video showing their favorite salsa move?
Move of the week? Technique forum discussing a certain technique each week?

Making the site more 2 way? Community involvement = more active site. It would be cool to see more forum action.
I’ve always looked at something like Qik, kyte, and thought it’d make an excellent tool if the community was there.

Not sure if these are the kinds of ideas/feedback you’re looking for.

  • I’m actually working on something to replace the forums to make it more interactive with the people that come to the site. It will basically be ‘Forums Take 3′ (even though it won’t be a forum. Hopefully, third time’s a charm.

I’ll take a look at kyte.

  • I’m a sucker for looking into the future sometimes – having seen the WYSIWYG aspect of Snow Leopard’s Server edition wiki, i’m smitten. Cut’s all the faff out, and makes it useable. If it has a decent history archiving system, it’ll be way cool. No idea if you could actually use it for anything other than an internal intranet though… (that and whether non-Macs could use it).

Hows the app coming along by the way? still under NDA?

  • Trying to fix the forums first with something more ‘usable’ and fun. (Think twitter-like-facebooking + posting).

The salsa iPhone app is under hobby-mode right now.

As far as the Wiki – I’ve not a big fan of having a second Wiki on the internet vs editing Wikipedia. Also, Wikis require people to actually write stuff in it (no duh) and most of us don’t find that fun – especially when you have to learn the Wiki Markup. If they provided something like TinyMCE as the editor for a wiki entry that would be great.

I think the best thing to do is maybe have a directory on addicted2salsa that points to entries of the artists in Wikipedia. Easier to tap that information, than mirror it ourselves.

  • What a facinating blog. I’ve bookmarked it and added your feed to my RSS Reader
