    Hi,

does anybody know the name of this videos song???

I don´t know if the counting is in the song….but that would be good in order to learn the beat.

The video author doesn´t know it, too. He said he only knows it´s by Eddie Torres.

    Best Regards from Germany
    Nik

I think there are several versions of this song. The one I have is “Adalberto Alvarez – Y Qué tú Quieres que te Den”.

There is a live version of this song that is just fantastic.

I tried adding a embedded video, but it didn’t seem to work:

    Hi,
I am looking for Rock salsa covers…can you help to find ‘em?
I have found a torrent with Beatles, and I know there is something with Prince, and Eagles around…

    Where to search?

    Some interesting tips:

    • if you’re a guy and your finger joints start to hurt from spinning your spin-eager partner, you can always just stick your spinning finger to one of its neighbours for support using duck tape. I’m currently going to the salsa club with a roll of duck tape and a pair of scissors and my middle finger is attached to the ring finger. I turn my partners with my middle+index finger, and all the pressure used to fall on the middle finger so it started to hurt. Not any more :D
    • if your shoes are wet or the floor is just not right for spinning, apply some talcum powder. I always have a box of the stuff when I go to a club. People think I’m doing coke because I often suddenly go to the bathroom and come back all white on my hands.

This was not a joke :D

Hey Anthony, was wondering if these lessons were available for download? Due to internet complications, my dance partner and I need a way to take these lessons to a place where we have more room to practice.

Why do they call it “Salsa Racing”? never heard of that before.

      • hooknc 3:23 pm on March 27, 2009Permalink | Reply

Salsa Racing is one of the top rueda/casino schools in miami.

Henry Herrera (the guy in the video) is the owner of Salsa Racing and has done tons of work for the Miami community. He has performed on this TV show tons of times. Apparently the show is quite popular.

It’s probably called Salsa Racing because they are moving as fast as possible, much like racing cars. Holy Smokes @ the gal @ 1:00! I thought something was pulling her back or she was on some kind of sliding platform.

Hi guys. Do you know some nice sites, where they focus on presenting new salsa tunes? I mean – to check out what’s hot on young salsa, rather than to swim through 70s,60s and musicians old as Lenin. I’m just wondering if there is some decent, living salsa music – like remixes or genuine tunes.

So it’s been a while since I’ve had anything to post…but seeing Anthony’s post of Oliver and Luda spark some curiosity on the duo…I found out that they’ve been dancing together for over 15 years! Amazing. So that lead me to wanting to see Oliver really show his skills with someone he hasn’t dance with nearly 1/2 his life…And I found this social dancing video from 2005…The guy tears up the dance floor!

Yeah, I like his signature moves a lot; the 720 CBL (this time with hopping at the end), and the step in front body roll.

I have got to dedicate some time for learning that slick leader’s two handed spin(s) followed by two handed lady’s spin(s) immediately after.

Funny how I would rank Oliver and Milton Cobo as two of the smoothest dancers I’ve seen yet they have such a totally different style.

Tags: A2S10 coupon, Gabellini shoe sale

After seeing that A2S viewers are being offered a $10.00 discount, I revisited the Gabellini website and was very pleased to see that they are having a 3 week “Spring sale.” Most shoes are now $79.99 (2 new pre order models are actually $59.99 (***No additional discount allowed for this promotional pre order pricing***)
So with the spring sale and the ten bucks off, the total was $69.99. I went with the classic black with white stripe. The suede brush with a shoe purchase is only $5.00 -normally $10.00-(I doubt I can find a suede brush with cover for under $5.00 at Wal-Mart.) Shipping insured with Fed-Ex was $10.00 so I guess the shipping was free.

Total $84.99 regular retail $118.00 (A lot easier to stomach!)

So if you were sitting on the fence waiting for the right time, this might be it.

I’m trying to translate lyrics to “Llego la banda” for my cool gringo friends.

I’m hung up on two words “saoco” I thought it was saco as in take out but I was wrong.

“eh traigo *saoco* mamita y no bailo bamba”

    and:

“ay pa que goze la *mazucamba*” No idea what *mazucamba* is (maybe “party people”???)

    Little help?

Hello everyone! I would like to spice up my salsa a bit. I’m looking for moves/shines that would be flirtatious, but not too much. Not nessesarily simulating an intercourse ;) Something like sliding down to a crouching position and facing a partners stomach or doing something with her hair when the action stops for a moment. Thank you in advance for all the suggestions and links to videos.

    • Salserowannabe 4:15 am on March 25, 2009Permalink | Reply

Personally, I would never consider this sliding down or crouching move flirtatious. For me it alway looks like taking a fast dump. Sorry, mate – I just hate them. Any girl considering these moves fun and sexy?

    • laura 9:44 am on March 25, 2009Permalink | Reply

lol. it depends who does it and how well they do it. not eveyone call pull off every move.

    • Don Vaillancourt 6:16 pm on March 25, 2009Permalink | Reply

I love the move. But like Laura says, it needs to be done well. There are a ton of YouTube videos out there with salsa styling and stuff. Look it up, find something that you like and asks for tips on how to execute it. That’s pretty much what I do.

Here is a link to a video I posted a while back. Some cool styling; I think. And she does a move like you describe.

I have used it on the dance floor with a good friend of mine and she liked it a lot. She asked for more, so I want to surprise her with something new next time we dance :)

    • laura 12:33 pm on March 26, 2009Permalink | Reply

I’ve seen different various of that move. Example, on count 1 lady’s arms are raised and 2&3 the guys hand slide down from her arms to her waist. 567 will be a right or left turn by pushing the waist. Or, on 567 you can do a body roll.

    • laura 10:01 pm on March 26, 2009Permalink | Reply

This is from another discussion that Don posted. Wait, I think it was him. There are some good moves in here that are easy and fun. 2:40 is fun and simple. 4:03 is what I was trying to explaining. Sometimes seeing a video works best.

This might be the vid, but there are all kinds all over the tube. This one happens to be one of my favorites:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuZvRZZldKo

I think “Chain dancing” (this is actually said during this vid) and “Multiple partner dancing ” are appropriate phrases.

The only other possibility would be if you are referring to Salsa Rueda (also posted in the past.) Which is where there are multiple couples (equal amount of guys and girls) that change partners.

      Hope that helps

What you are suggesting does sound like a birthday dance where the guys or girls circle around the birthday guy/girl and each take turns and cut in. Otherwise if it wasn’t a birthday dance it might just be someone stealing the girl. Can be fun if everyone knows each other and knows the people wont mind. :)

It only took me about 3 days worth of actual work. The only problem was (on a personal note), I’ve been working 13 hour days at work and have only been able to dedicate 1 hour a night to a2s. I have some new video episodes in the pipeline which I hope to release next week if time permits.

Clarification: 1 day of actual work = 8 hours.

To bust tail at work for 13 hours then do the same type of work at home for the benefit of schmucks like me can’t be commended enough. I’m pretty certain I have no idea of how much work you put into this site. (Much less a dollar amount out of pocket…I wonder what the dollar value would be if you had someone else create all this???)

I know lots of people say it all the time but thanks for the great site, the quality of the content, and the opportunity to bond with other people with a common interest.

As soon as I get back from work tonight, a donation will be on the way.

    Tags: improving footwork

Hi, I just thought about something I read in here but I can’t find it anymore :(
I’d love to improve my footwork – ok I love to improve everything possible while dancing – therefor I read something about weights for your lower legs. This should make your footwork faster when you get used to this extra weight and then keep those off.

Now my question – where to get those – and even better for me, does anyone have a idea how to build your own? I have not that much money left for such things even if I really love salsa, this isn’t possible to cost me too much.

    • Don Vaillancourt 11:01 am on March 16, 2009Permalink | Reply

They’re called ankle weights. They’re very inexpensive. Can be had for under $10.00.

      http://www.amazon.com/Cando-Econocuff-Wrist-Ankle-Weight/dp/B000AYS8R8/ref=pd_bbs_sr_10?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1237226400&sr=8-10

Thank you – very helpful :)
But this makes up some more questions:
      - are this two of this type since I have two legs ;) – or do you buy two of them?
      - What weight would be good for this? I never had something like this and only thought of “wow, good idea”.

And the last question what is of interest, even if those are not that expensive – maybe someone has experience with making something like this by himself and wants to share :)

    • Andy 2:52 pm on March 18, 2009Permalink | Reply

You watched too much dragon ballz :) . back in the day everyone thought arm wrist weights might be a good idea to increase the difficulty during jogging. now everyone will tell you that wearing them will throw your natural and I am guessing the healthy body motion off balance.

So I will just assume that ankle weights will have the same negative effect. why not just practice more?

      • Don Vaillancourt 3:55 pm on March 18, 2009Permalink | Reply

I agree with Andy. Footwork is not just about being able to whip your leg around at 100mph, but also about coordination. Only practice will improve that. Using ankle weights will not necessarily improve your speed.

Besides, one of Julie’s posts somewhere she mentions that with dancing she discovered new muscles.

I’ve just had my 6th Salsa lesson, and I’m enjoying it tremendously.

I’ve always been an easy sweating person (but hey, I always smell nice ;) ) and I saw on some YouTube movies, that it’s pretty common for the guy to carry around a small towel in the back pocket of his pants, letting is stick out for a bit.

Is this the common way to carry around a towel, when you’re unable to walk back and forth to your locker or bag? Is there a smarter / more elegant way to carry it around?

    Thanks. :)

They get the same “stink eye” that I have for hankercheifs.

I don’t have a better suggestion unfortunately. Until then I will continue to look for napkins or head to the bathroom for more creative sweat extraction.

Well, I bought a small towel (classy anthracite colour ;) ) but I look a bit weird when it’s stuck in my back pocket. Like I have a tail, or something. So I just leave it at the side of the room and wipe my face whenever I can.

I sweat a lot on my head – not much I can do about – so I can better appear clean to the ladies. I smell fantastic btw, as I’m a perfumista ;) , it’s just a lot of water.

    • laura 9:51 am on March 25, 2009Permalink | Reply

i think guys can get away w/ a small towel on the back of their pants. or, going to the sidelines to drying off. i’ve seen some guys wear those “sweat absorbing workout shirt” but it does not look cute out to a social or a club. sorry! your’re just gonna sweat! what do you guys think about about the ladies that sweat???? any turnoff???

      • Tikka 9:57 am on March 25, 2009Permalink | Reply

Well you know, I think it’s basic human instinct reaction to think someone looks better without a face or armpit full of sweat. But on the other hand, Salsa is quite an active activity, so you’re bound to sweat. Very little you can do about it. :)

I’d say: as long as you smell nice, it’s more than fine. And spritz some anti transpirant under the armpits. Or if you’re a lady, maybe you can wear a sleeveless top.

        • Don Vaillancourt 5:48 pm on March 25, 2009Permalink | Reply

I agree with Tikka. I know a couple of ladies that love to dance and sweat like crazy. They’re very slippery when I dance with the,. But they don’t stink and I’m fine with that.

It’s always a toss up – dance every song and sweat, or preserve your appearance by sitting out every other song. I’ve always been curious how some girls still look so good at the end of the night, and when I ask them, they tell me they “take lots of breaks.” What would the guys prefer for ladies to do? Would you rather dance with a sweaty girl, or hear the reply, “I’m taking a break right now, maybe later…”??

    Tags: timing exercizes

Timing exercizes for dancing properly on2 NY mambo style:

1a)- basic steps clapping hands on the beat 1; and 5 additionally (2 and 6 are answer steps to the beats 1 and 5). Keep an eye on your body weight and its baricentrum seeing what weight movements feel better (the steps 2 and 6 need precision and enphasis, the others don’t necessarily have to be matched exactly).
1b)- clap hands on 12 and 56, having heard the conga beats 4&, 8&

2a)- basic steps clapping the hands on the clave beats
2b)- step on the clave beats, which are five, and on the 1 or 5 for the sixth step

3)- basic steps clapping hands on the conga 4&-6 and 8&-2; if the song is slow 4&5-6 and 8&1-2 can be done (“&” is half beat)

    - clap hands on all the beats or any combination you like :-)

    - practise and love chacha :-)

Practise these for few days with your salsa music on and you won’t have to count ever more…all the instruments will simply come to help you keeping the timing when you feel you are missing it.

    :-) nice eh?

After about 4 months of a 20 minute drive to and from work, while listening to nothing but salsa. It’s downright hard not to hear the hit on the two beat of most salsa songs. If it isn’t a hit (clave, cowbell, or conga) then there’s usually a bass or guitar (cuatro) note to replace it.

I will try your clapping hands deal. Where did you learn it?

And now I’m off to google up the word baricentrum (sounds like a multi-vitamim!)

    • lonbluster 5:18 am on March 17, 2009Permalink | Reply

      Hi Marco

Baricentro in Italian means “center of gravity”, as translated by the dictionary.
Each exercize will setup your mind and body in to using a slightly different center of gravity.

I actually do this execizes with a clave recently, instead of clapping hands. The clave sounds better :-)

Is anyone else having problems downloading the videos from the site or from YouTube using RealPlayer? It had worked fine untill recently.

They likely changed something. DownloadHelper add on for firefox still working, so it’s probably just RealPlayer – have you checked to see if there is an update for Realplayer available?

I’ve tried checking for updates to RealPlayer – but it didn’t help.

Is it just addicted2salsa videos? or general videos from youtube?
You might want to check out http://www.nuevotec.com/index.php?option=com_zoom&Itemid=38 I know they were accessible.

Thanks for your help – I found it was that the “add-on” in Internet Explorer that lets you download files had become disabled. This probably occurred after one of the many Microsoft Updates. Anyway its all working fine now. Thanks again

I love salsa so much that I want to learn how to sing to it as well. Anyone know of any vocal classes that teach salsa in NYC? I’m even willing to do an apprenticeship with a band if they are willing to take me in.

    Much thanks

Wondering who else is on twitter. – seems useful for a dancer potentially.
Would an addicted2salsa friendfeed group be ever an option?
