Here’s a a compilation of a bachata choreography by Juan Ruiz and Samantha. I tried a different approach on the video, instead of recording just “a performance”, I jointed together various performances even our training sessions to make it look more like a music video

Here’s my latest freestyle/demo of Bachata Moderna in Sydney, Australia.
I know some people won’t like it as Bachata Moderna is more showy than the traditional Bachata. But, I’m in a quest to push Bachata and take it to next level, as it has happen that many dancers, we learnt the basics of bachata and then they feel that that’s it in Bachata, no need to take more classes or learn more (that happened to me too).
Bachata Moderna is based on the Bachata traditional (1, 2, 3 and hip) and the close connection, but it adds new fundamentals to the dance (Cross on1, on2, on3, cross over, About turn, exit on1). This fundamentals helps you to take your bachata to the next level and create a lot of more combinations and moves.
I’m open for comments, suggestions, after all, we all are in this together, we all love dancing.

Nah, they do this all the time in clubs in Poland. I really don’t like it – original bachata is about senses, sex. This one is more like ballroom rumba comparing to cuban rumba. Keep the sex in bachata, not running around dancefloor in something what will never be a tango. Looks ridiculous to me.
Too much like Zouk. I second SalseroWannaBe. They’re good, but I don’t like it. That’s what Salsa is there for.
And the funniest parts are them walking backward and forward. They look idiotic – just doesn’t fits the music.

I think this new flavor of bachata is great! there is so many new things you can do with the dance.
It is interesting that bachata is going through the same evolution as salsa did in the 90′s. In the early 90′s, people only danced the colombian and cuban salsa. There was no technicalities, just feel the music and the bit. When the linear style came, people were apprehensive to it and started saying that that is not salsa, it’s more like a ballroom dance! Look at it now… the linear salsa (on1, on2) is the most popular salsa style.
Bachata is evolving as well, we can either stay in the past and hope it won’t change, or we can embrace the dance and push it forward to the future.
I think i became to philosophical now, but I would love to hear your thoughts…
@Juan: I understand what you’re saying. But Bachata already has all the turns and tricks that Salsa has. The difference is that it’s done with side steps, is more intimate and slower.
You obviously can’t do whip turns in Bachata. But you could do the sombrero.
In the early 90′s people only danced colombian and cuban? Where?

hey anthony! man i gotta say…. i love this website and all your videos…. you inspired me to start up salsa…… soon i will post a video showing what i’ve learned from your videos!
but i have the biggest favor to ask….. i found this song using projectplaylist.com….. and i cant seem to find it anywhere else…… and yes…. i saw your video on how to find songs…. which i already knew anyways… lol… and like…. idk…. i can tell you on project playlist its by louie ramirez and its supposedly called “Descarga A&J” but i cant find it…. maybe you can help me in your spare time?? or anybody for that matter??

The album is strong as a whole. Louie was an absolute stud in his day. Chin Chon Chow, Guaguanco de Los Violentos are two of my all time favorites songs period. There’s some good cha-cha (Azucar in Neuva York), and boogaloo in there as well.
