    Hey Friends,
One of the instructors I know is actually teaching dancing cha cha on 1. The instructor is very graceful and has good body movement but I always thought that dancing cha-cha on 1 was not possible. If you dance on 1 then on beat 3 both your foot are together and on 4 and 4.5 you shuffle your feet and on 5 you take a step back making the dance feel uneven. In between 3&4 a whole beat you shuffle your foot and then between 4.5 & 5 you take a full step back which feels awkward. Dancing cha-cha on 2 feels a lot more even since you shuffle your foot on the half beats. Was wondering if anyone does really dance cha-cha on 1.

I enjoy this song very much. I thought I’d share it for those who don’t get much access to salsa/cha-cha music outside of the US!

Brilliant musically but jazzy and quite long – I find it difficult to sustain a dance this length of time – don’t you run out of ideas?
PS what was that Cha Cha track on the podcast with Z – the old school style that you didn’t care for much?

Rhythms del Mundo AlbumThanks! I found it on iTunes. I think I’ll add it to he next episode of cover songs. “Clocks” by Coldplay to Cuban Cha-Cha icon. It was under ‘Rhythms del Mundo & Coldplay’. After sampling the rest of the album, it is not that bad. I was impressed they took a lot of other famous artists (such as Marron 5 and Franz Ferdinand) which are NOT even close to the Latin genre. Now, the question is, do I want to make another ‘Cover Songs pt deux’ or ‘Magic of Cha-Cha’ part deux…….

Hi. We are quite new to Salsa (and loving it). At our class we also do Cha Cha Cha, often to “Clocks”. My question is is this track also suitable for basic salsa? We seem to be able to dance to it and find the 1,2,3 5,6,7 beat but to be honest timing and picking up the beat is our greatest weakness!

What about calling it ‘Salsa is Universal (Pt 2)’ ? Or has it entered the Twilight Zone?

For those who went to the festival, but might have not had a chance to record (to help practice what you’ve learned) here are some of the videos from the San Diego Salsa Festival. Thank you to the instructors for letting us record.

    SDSF Video 1: Cha-Cha Adolfo

    SDSF Video 2: Masacote Combo

They are in iPod/iPhone format, so practice where you can! Enjoy!
