Beautiful Performance by Masacote Dance Company

I just came across a beautiful performance by Masacote Dance Company from Boston, MA that I wanted to share with everyone. This performance has so many levels to it; it is truly a work of art. Rarely do we see symbolism in salsa choreography, and rarely do we see music written specifically for the choreography. I love the creativity in this performance, and especially the interplay between the dancers and the musicians. Great musicality is my weak spot – I think it really embodies what dance is. I hope you all enjoy it, and thanks to Dany J. (ScarletMambo) for posting this video!

  • At Philly Jam 3, Masacote performed. I loved their hip-hop/jazz styling sensibility and style. Their musicality is irresistible. I’d never seen them before on YouTube or the like. Early that morning, after the event, I went home and searched out and watched videos of their performances.

  • Hi Anthony. Thanks for posting the video. I somehow never got around to posting it here in A2S.com. I knew I forgot something. I am glad that you did. I find it remarkable that when I found it, this video only had about 170 views since it was posted in October of 2008. After this post, the video has almost 2,100 views thanks to your site!

Anyway, I saw this performance at the Boston Salsa Congress and it was def amazing. It’s gotta be in my TOP 5 of favorite performances.

  • It’s rare that we get to see salsa as art. There are a couple of things that make this so different from what we usually see at congresses. First, an attention to the forms made by the whole group, not just the dancers. There were some beautiful shapes. There was an organic quality that we rarely see, that made it all the more impactful when there was unison. And what a treat to have live music on stage with the dancers. I love it when we see the influence of other dance styles on salsa and not just as part of an intro or bridge. A modern dance sensibility was infused into the whole piece and it really worked. Thanks for sharing this.
