Start the New Year right with this salsa dance workshop!

Melissa Rosado Majesty in Motion workshopYear after year people all over the world flock to New York, home of NY Style Salsa On2, to take lessons from the King of Mambo himself, Eddie Torres, and his partner Melissa Rosado. I made the journey two years ago, and it brought my dancing to a whole new level. Not only did I get to take classes from the masters, I was also lucky enough to catch Melissa social dancing at a popular New York club and watch in awe!

I am thrilled to announce a truly once in a lifetime opportunity for anyone who wants to bring their dancing to the next level regardless of which style of salsa you dance. In February, Majesty In Motion Dance Co. is bringing Melissa Rosado to the West Coast to host a set of workshops featuring Body Movement, Styling and Shines, and Partnering & Following Technique. These workshops are for both men and women.  Melissa not only brings her expertise in Eddie Torres salsa technique, but also her wide variety of training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip-Hop, African, Afro-Cuban and Flamenco since the age of 5. Whether you are in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Tijuana or the surrounding area, this should be one of the most promising salsa weekends in Southern California this year. I hope to see lots of you at this unique event!

On The Road to San Francisco, California

Going to San FranciscoI will be in San Francisco, California next week starting Nov 15-20th, 2008. I’ve enjoyed the time I’ve spent in the bay area when I’ve attended the San Francisco Salsa Congress over the years, even though it was really in downtown Oakland. However, because I’ll be attending the Adobe MAX 2008 Conference (for my real day job), I’m excited to see a the real showcasing of the San Francisco night time salsa scene. If anyone has any suggestions to where to go dancing during those nights – I would really appreciate it! You can leave any info in the comments.

As a quick reminder, the San Francisco Salsa Congress will be the weekend after that week: Nov 20-23rd, 2008. If you have never gone to a congress, you definetaly should check out this event – one of the best in the US. While I will not able able to attend or performing at the congress this year, Julie Merrill will be performing with David Stein’s Majesty In Motion Pro Team (videos).

2008 New Salsa Salsa Congress Review

New York Salsa Congress

New York Salsa Congress

I know it is long overdue. My review of the New York Salsa Congress is finally up. In fact, it was mostly done but I was procrastinating.  Choco, the organizer of the congress, posted a new promo video on facebook of the Congress and guess whose funny face appears at the end!

Review, promo video and photos of the 2008 New York Salsa Congress.

San Diego Salsa Festival Preview : Joel and Ana “Masacote”

Continuing our preview of the upcoming San Diego Salsa Festival, we have the amazing dancers of Sabor Masacote Dance Company. Joel and Ana Massicot (“Masacote”) provide an interesting new mix of salsa dance style since Joel comes from St. Croix (Virgin Islands) and Ana comes from Mexico. Sabor Masacote is a dance company comprised of six talented individuals that not only specialize in salsa (NY Style On 2), but also in other diverse dance disciplines, such as ballet, modern, and jazz. You can see a mix of all these dance styles in their choreography.

And here is Joel and Ana themselves social dancing at the same congress in 2005. For those bound to ask, the song is called ‘Salsa Buena’ by Frankie Ruiz.

Live Stream of the Puerto Rico Salsa Congress 2008

For those who cannot make it to the Puerto Rico Salsa Congress this year, they have added a new feature. They are currently broadcasting a live stream of the dance performances on their website. So while you couldn’t make it, you can still watch most of the action over the internet.

Now, going to the site – I noticed it is having some issues streaming the video live. I hope someone else has better luck, however, this is a good start to showcasing salsa congress events around the world.

Las Vegas Salsa Congress – July 4th Weekend

A lot of us from San Diego will be attending the 2008 Las Vegas Salsa Congress. It should be a very fun weekend with some good performances (even if it is only two days). If you are from Las Vegas and have never attended a salsa congress, I highly encourage you to attend and support your salsa venues. Las Vegas used to be the home of the World Salsa Championships hosted by ESPN, before it was moved to Orlando. If you decide to attend, stop by and say hi to some of our famous San Diego salsa scene dancers- the Majesty Ladies, Majesty in Motion Pro Team, Positive Energy, and Juan and Susie. I’m sure Las Vegas salseros can party harder in Sin City than in Los Angeles!
