Julie, another excellent post!

My two cents: I often go to clubs or socials where the music is very loud. But I never remember to bring my silicone earplugs. So, as a quick (and inexpensive) solution, I make a paper earplugs out of paper napkins.

Take a regular paper napkin from the bar, tear out a square of about a 2" x 2" in size. Roll the paper into a nice tight ball and stick it in your ear. Not too tight so that it can be removed easily.

That should be enough to dampen the intensity of the sound. At the end of the night, remove the "ear plugs" and throw them out. And voila! No ringing in the ears.

I often notice people asking the DJ to lower the music level when it's too loud. Too much trouble. It's easier to build your own paper earplugs. Problem solved. I haven't had that annoying ear ringing in years.

I recently bought some of the etymotics for my concert-going - I've got sensitive ears - They are *great*. Went to a hip-hop club and enjoyed myself a lot more, could hear the music better, and knew I wouldn't wake up with ringing. Only downside is they look kind of silly, (Had Tan Pair) but I'm waiting for a clear pair that may be less noticeable.
