First Place at Stevens Steakhouse Competition in Los Angeles

Over the weekend there was an amazing competition at Steven’s Steakhouse in Los Angeles, California where many professional salsa dance couples competed for a grand prize of $10,000 smackeroos in addition to respect from the overall salsa community. We are happy to congratulate Christian Oviedo and Liz Lira for winning first place and showing us why they are number 1 (must see video)!

The second and third place winners are:

and Abel Pena & Zulmara Torres (3rd Place)

The judges for the competition were: Judges: Alex Da Silva, Sascha, Francisco Vazquez, Rogelio Moreno, Carolina Cerisola, Dena Burroughs, Alicia Minaeva, Janette Valenzuela.

Thanks to salsahook for posting the videos.

I am Sediqua (Judy) from Iran and a big fan of Latin dances. I think I have a very strong talent in learning dances as I can dance Persian and Arabian on my own not taking part in classes just have an inner feeling about the rhythms… when I find ur lessons in youtube I really become surprised that I can learn it in this way… hope to be in touch with u and I’d be happy to see u in Iran someday!!!
You see… I’m working on my master thesis and beside my work dancing will give me double energy to continue my job and studying in the best way… tanx for ur care…
    Wish u all the best

  • It’s Liz Lira, no wonder they won. I took a workshop with her, she’s like a salsa drill instructor, in the absolute best way possible. She really helped me improve my technique. I wish I was still in California to take more lessons with her. She’s amazing!

  • ohhh man,
this is relly impressive. that’s what i call accurate and precise! cleancut moves, performed as sharp as a scalpel.
normally i don’t like this showdancing thing that much, but this is really some different stuff.
