[Update] You might want to check out our video version of the “Finding the Beat in Salsa Music“
Well, this episode has long been coming. One of the hardest things I ever went through in my salsa ‘life’ was to find the beat in the music. We all go through this problem, and with this part 1 (of a multiple part series) – I will try to do my best to help you practice on how to find the beat. I will play some songs, do some counting and hopefully give you some tips on how to train your ear to listen and feel the clave of the salsa music.

I’m trying to find the name of the song in the very beginning of,
“Episode 25: Finding the beat in salsa music”
Searched the site but couldn’t find a listing.
HELP!
Thanks and stay Salsafied!
Joni~
Joni,
Did you ever manage to find the name of the song? I am interested in it also…
Anthony, Thanks for the Episode 25 on finding the salsa beats podcast. It’s a huge help for a tone deft like me! Now that my ears are somewhat more integrated to salsa beats, i was wondering if there are any more-practical lessons, just like this, out there that you would recommend? I saw a few cds that seem similar to your approach, have you heard any of them?

What’s that song in the beginning of the podcast? Could someone post the name of the song on here?
Thanks!
Where can I download Episode 23: Finding the Beat? I tried this site and podcast but couldn’t find it. Any help would be great!

Don´t ask me how I found it…
haha. You guys are funny. You know that all the episodes can be found at http://salsapodcast.org right? (and you can download them from there too).

But I wonder where part 2 is?…
What’s that song in the beginning of the podcast?
It’s Campina on the Descarga Uno album, by Afro Cuban Jazz Project. Can download it from Amazon or iTunes i’d imagine.
FYI – Found using Shazam (see the recent Gadget edition “How to find free salsa music” podcast (Shazam is an application for an an iPhone or iPod Touch but you can also call them to identify a song, with the cost free if it doesn’t identify it at least in the UK)
I could have used this tutorial 3 months ago when women were leaving me in the middle of songs. Well I’m good now. Ended up buying an iPod and tons of music and listened to it day it day out for a whole week until I got the beat.
Now I can find the beat in most salsa songs.
I’m trying to get the salsa musicality. Your latest blog entry (how to understand the salsa beats and rhythms better) was a great help — so I subscribed to the podcast. Good stuff! There seems to be one broken link, for this specific podcast. Hope this helps (http://videos.addicted2salsa.com/podcast/video/how-to-find-the-beat-in-salsa-music-part-1). I truly appreciate all I’ve learned so far from Addicted. Ciao!
I fixed the link to the podcast episode. Thanks for the heads-up!
Anthony, during the clave part of the track, you announce that it’s a 3-2 clave, but around 20:08 you start counting it as a 2-3 clave beat. Did the beat change somewhere in there that I didn’t notice or is it a mistake?
I agree that in the beginning, one of the hardest things is dancing on beat. Are there any beginners here that would like to test their timing?
I just finished an online test:
http://www.salsatiminggonewild.com/salsatimingtest.html
Just took the test…. got a 97% … Yay!!!!!
That means I am timing MASTER…lol
Could anyone please post the name of last track in this episode(Episode25)?
Thanks!
This is just complete crap
