Start the New Year right with this salsa dance workshop!

Melissa Rosado Majesty in Motion workshopYear after year people all over the world flock to New York, home of NY Style Salsa On2, to take lessons from the King of Mambo himself, Eddie Torres, and his partner Melissa Rosado. I made the journey two years ago, and it brought my dancing to a whole new level. Not only did I get to take classes from the masters, I was also lucky enough to catch Melissa social dancing at a popular New York club and watch in awe!

I am thrilled to announce a truly once in a lifetime opportunity for anyone who wants to bring their dancing to the next level regardless of which style of salsa you dance. In February, Majesty In Motion Dance Co. is bringing Melissa Rosado to the West Coast to host a set of workshops featuring Body Movement, Styling and Shines, and Partnering & Following Technique. These workshops are for both men and women.  Melissa not only brings her expertise in Eddie Torres salsa technique, but also her wide variety of training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip-Hop, African, Afro-Cuban and Flamenco since the age of 5. Whether you are in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Tijuana or the surrounding area, this should be one of the most promising salsa weekends in Southern California this year. I hope to see lots of you at this unique event!

  • Thanks for the heads-up, Julie. That is great that Melissa is making down to San Diego. I took a shine class and a partnerwork class with Melissa this summer, and it was fantastic. Honestly, I couldn’t keep up with the entire shine at full speed, plus I walked in late. Don’t walk in late to a shine class people!!! Or any class with Melissa! Whether you are late, on-time, or early, one thing I can guarantee all that are going to her classes is that she will work your @$$ off! You will get more than what you paid for, but you will have to work for it :) Melissa is a tough cookie to please (more like a scone), and the NYC attitude doesn’t help soften her up. This sounds like I am trash-talking her, but I am not. I think she is a phenomenal dancer and instructor. Also, I hope everyone on this site in the SD area has the opportunity to go–You most certainly should if you know what is good for you. But don’t expect her to compliment everyone’s progress throughout the class. You will not be babied. At the end of the partnerwork class I attended, I received one of the only (if not the only) compliments I heard from Melissa all day–”not bad.” You can’t blame her, she is awesome and you won’t measure up. Face it :-)

  • No one beats Eddie Torres. He is the King. I now teach salsa classes in NYC but the first salsa classes I took back when I was a beginner was with Eddie Torres. I’m very lucky because I work 2 blocks away from the studio he teaches at. Melissa was often at the Level 2 classes and I’m glad to see that your telling people to go check out a workshop by one of the best Eddie Torres trained On2 dancers. I remember one of the things that Eddie did in every class was ear training. I was always able to hear the “1″ but it took some time to hear the “2″ but once I started to hear it, dancing On2 made perfect sense. I’ve had a few students come to my class who moved to NYC from other areas such as boston and texas that dance On1. Usually they are just as bad at hearing the “2″ as a beginner. Most of them ask me why we dance On2. In this respect, I think a lot of On1 dancers can benefit from taking a class from a On2 dancer like Melissa.
