No one beats Eddie Torres. He is the King. I now teach salsa classes in NYC but the first salsa classes I took back when I was a beginner was with Eddie Torres. I'm very lucky because I work 2 blocks away from the studio he teaches at. Melissa was often at the Level 2 classes and I'm glad to see that your telling people to go check out a workshop by one of the best Eddie Torres trained On2 dancers. I remember one of the things that Eddie did in every class was ear training. I was always able to hear the "1" but it took some time to hear the "2" but once I started to hear it, dancing On2 made perfect sense. I've had a few students come to my class who moved to NYC from other areas such as boston and texas that dance On1. Usually they are just as bad at hearing the "2" as a beginner. Most of them ask me why we dance On2. In this respect, I think a lot of On1 dancers can benefit from taking a class from a On2 dancer like Melissa.

Thanks for the heads-up, Julie. That is great that Melissa is making down to San Diego. I took a shine class and a partnerwork class with Melissa this summer, and it was fantastic. Honestly, I couldn't keep up with the entire shine at full speed, plus I walked in late. Don't walk in late to a shine class people!!! Or any class with Melissa! Whether you are late, on-time, or early, one thing I can guarantee all that are going to her classes is that she will work your @$$ off! You will get more than what you paid for, but you will have to work for it :) Melissa is a tough cookie to please (more like a scone), and the NYC attitude doesn't help soften her up. This sounds like I am trash-talking her, but I am not. I think she is a phenomenal dancer and instructor. Also, I hope everyone on this site in the SD area has the opportunity to go--You most certainly should if you know what is good for you. But don't expect her to compliment everyone's progress throughout the class. You will not be babied. At the end of the partnerwork class I attended, I received one of the only (if not the only) compliments I heard from Melissa all day--"not bad." You can't blame her, she is awesome and you won't measure up. Face it :-)
